The Basics:

How to Apply:

Tuition/Fees:

Paid directly to LFCC from the VA

·         100% eligible student does not owe any tuition or fees.

·         Less than 100% eligible, student is responsible for remaining balance.

For example:  if 80% eligibility, VA would pay 80% to LFCC and student pays 20%.

·         Student must provide eligibility documentation.

  • VA pays in-state tuition rate only.

 

Books:

Student receives $41.67 per credit hour, up to $1,000 per academic year, paid directly to student by the VA. Book stipend may not cover entire cost of books.

Housing Allowance (BAH):

To receive any housing stipend, student must be enrolled greater than half time, 51% of a full time student.  Must be enrolled in 7 credits or more for Fall and Spring terms and at least 4 credits for summer.

    •  BAH is calculated for each individual day of the term.  If student enrollment changes, class ends or begins, BAH will change accordingly.
    • To receive highest possible BAH pay rate, student must be enrolled in minimum of one “in person” classes. For a class to qualify as “in person class”, the class must meet in-person on campus 50 minutes per week per credit hour. 1 credit class must meet in classroom 50 minutes or more per week.

3 credit class must meet in classroom 150 minutes or more per week.

  • Hybrid courses are not “in person” classes.
  • MTEs and ENF must be taken in person

Chapter 31 VocRehab

The Basics

·         You must have a service-related disability rating of at least 10% to qualify

·         Can receive up to 12 years from separation or 1st VA disability rating

·         Education plan approved by a VA VocRehab counselor

Post 9/11 stipend is typically higher.  If student qualifies for Post 9/11, student can receive Post 9/11 stipend instead of VocRehab stipend.

Student Responsibilities

Student must meet with a VocRehab counselor prior to approval for school.  Student must also meet regularly scheduled appointments, established by the counselor.

Please send grades in a word or .pdf document. DO NOT SEND transcripts in LINKS, E-SCIPTS, or NOTEBOOK – these will not open. Tuition and fees will be recouped by VANG if student does not 2 years required after the last term using benefit.

·         If classes are dropped after the add/drop date, VANG will recoup on the tuition and books. Failed, withdrawn or incomplete courses paid with state funding will be recouped.

Army Federal Tuition Assistance for Active Duty and Army Reservists

The Basics:

·         Federal Tuition Assistance pays up to $4500 per year directly to LFCC

·         Fiscal year credit limit of 16 semester hours

·         $250.00 per semester hour cap

·         Can be used for tuition only

·         Active Duty officers incur an Active Duty Service Obligation (ADSO) of two years, and Reserve Component officers incur a Reserve Duty Service Obligation (RDSO) of four years. The ADSO/RDSO is calculated from the date of completion of the last course for which TA was used.

SPOUSES AND DEPENDENTS
Chapter 33 TOE

The Basics:

  • Parent transfers their Chapter 33 benefits to dependent/spouse while active duty and commits to give additional months of service
  • Only children, (not spouses), are eligible for the monthly stipend or books and supplies stipend while the member is serving on active duty
  • Dependents must be 18 or graduate of high school to use. Benefits expire at age 26.
  • Spouses may use up to 15 years from separation

The Basics:

Dependents benefits from age 18 to 26.

  • Spouses may use up to 10 years from veteran eligibility or 20 years from date of death during active duty
