Project Summary

LFCC is committed to strengthening the student experience in and out of the classroom. The 31,800 square foot Student Union will house many student support facilities and amenities including:

  • Larger bookstore
  • Food service and cafĂ©
  • Student lounge
  • Student life offices
  • Fitness center
  • Aerobics & yoga studios
  • Classrooms
  • Locker rooms

During a sluggish economy, state funding for this project was unlikely.  However, facing record enrollment growth, we did not want to wait until we were able to raise $9 million in private funds.

LFCC and the LFCC Foundation worked together to develop a creative solution and a solid business plan. The Student Union will be built on property owned by the LFCC Foundation. The Foundation is assuming a $9 million loan to finance the project.

The Foundation will repay the loan through:

  • Vendor income-we will receive commission payments form the bookstore and food vendors
  • Rental income-the college will lease the Student Union from the Foundation
  • Private donations-our fundraising goal is $3 million.

The sooner we repay the loan, the more money we save in interest payments, and the sooner we can begin planning Phase 2 of the project, which could include basketball courts and a gymnasium.

There are many naming opportunities in the new building, beginning at the $25,000 level to name a classroom. A donor appreciation wall will be designed to recognize gifts between $1,000-$10,000.
