Open Educational Resources (OER) at LFCC

What is OER?

Open Educational Resources, or OER, are materials for teaching, learning, and research that are in the public domain or have been released with an open license (often a Creative Commons license) that allows them to be freely used, copied, adapted, and re-shared with others.

OER includes textbooks, videos, lecture notes, assignments, software, lab notes, games, full courses, and more.

Why LFCC Cares?

LFCC is dedicated to reducing barriers to student success.

  • OER have the potential to offset the cost of educational materials, passing the savings directly to our students.
  • The cost of digital OER for students is zero, and low-cost print is available.
  • Students have access to OER materials from day one.
  • LFCC students have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars since 2015 through faculty use of OER.

LFCC is Dedicated to Instructional Excellence.

OER give faculty the ability to customize materials, creating the “perfect” course packet or textbook.

Faculty maintain control of the quality of course materials with OER.

OER help faculty incorporate a wide variety of materials in their instructional practices, without having to start from scratch.
