Virginia Placement Test (VPT)
What Is the VPT?
The VPT is an untimed, computerized test that helps your college evaluate your skills and place you into appropriate courses. The VPT offers tests in reading, math, and a writing essay. You will receive your VPT results immediately upon completion of testing, and your score report will include placement messages informing you what courses you should take and how to register.
VPT English Test:
This test includes a multiple choice reading test and a written essay graded along five domains: organization; focus, development, and support; vocabulary; sentence structure; and mechanics. Based on placement results, students will be placed into college level English; ENF 3 (which requires concurrent enrollment with college level English); ENF 2; ENF 1; or a different level of remediation to be provided by the College or local Adult Basic Education programs.
LFCC policy allows for one retake within a twelve month period for each placement exam. Retakes may be completed one week after the initial testing date.
