All first-time students at LFCC must take The Virginia Placement Test for English, and Math to determine your level of academic skills. The results determine if you are ready for college level courses or if you need remedial work before taking a college course.
Things to Know About the Virginia Placement Test (VPT)
- What Is the VPT?
- The VPT is an untimed, computerized test that helps your college evaluate your skills and place you into appropriate courses. The VPT offers tests in reading, math, and a writing essay. You will receive your VPT results immediately upon completion of testing, and your score report will include placement messages informing you what courses you should take and how to register.
- How Are VPT Scores Used?
- VPT scores indicate areas in which you are strong and areas in which you may need help. Thus, the VPT can identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt your educational progress, giving you the opportunity to prepare more effectively for needed courses. You and your institution can use scores from the VPT to prepare a course of study that will be appropriate, relevant, and meaningful for you.
- How Can I Arrange to Take the VPT?
- The VPT is administered through a Testing Center at Lord Fairfax Community College. To contact the Fauquier Campus Testing Center, call (540) 351.1515; for the Middletown Campus Testing Center, call (540) 868.7140.
