Frequently Asked Questions About Scholarships

Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) students are encouraged to apply for LFCC Foundation Scholarships each year. Scholarships are awarded once a year and are based on many different factors. Below are the most frequently asked questions to help you understand the application process:

Q. How do I apply for scholarships?

A. The scholarship application is available on our website at When applying, you only need to complete one application to be considered for all available scholarships. You do not apply for each scholarship individually, nor do you apply for specific scholarships. The single application is used for all scholarships to be awarded. Some scholarships do have additional requirements that applicants need to complete in order to be considered. Also, all first time LFCC students must submit their most recent high school or college transcript to the Financial Aid Office as part of the application process.

Q. When can I apply?

A. The application will open January 11, 2021 with the Priority Filing Date of April 5, 2021 for the first round of awarding. Awards are for the fall and spring semester. Applications will be accepted after that date for additional rounds of awarding.

Q. If I am not selected to receive a scholarship, do I need to reapply for the next year?

A. All applicants have to reapply once the new calendar year begins.

Q. How will I be notified that I have been selected to receive a scholarship?

A. All recipients will be notified via their LFCC student e-mail account and will be given instructions as to how to accept or decline their award. Awards declined or not accepted by the deadline will be awarded to the next eligible student.

Q. What will the scholarship pay for?

A. All scholarships are divided equally between the two semesters that they are awarded for (unless specified for one term only) and are automatically applied first towards your outstanding tuition and fees. Depending on the particular scholarship, funds may also be used to purchase books. Funds not used are returned to the Foundation to be re-invested for future awards.

Q. What do I have to do to maintain my scholarship award?

A. All scholarship have stipulations- minimum GPA, credit hour, or program of study requirements- that must be met and are outlined during the acceptance process. If you do not meet these stipulations the award for the second semester will be cancelled. If that happens, you will be notified via your LFCC student e-mail account.

Q. Aside from the LFCC Foundation scholarships, are there any other scholarships that I can apply for?

A. You are free to apply for any scholarship in the community or on the Internet. LFCC maintains a list of scholarships that we were made aware of from external donors. These are available at: This listed is updated as we receive notification of scholarship opportunities and should be checked frequently.
