LFCC’s Technology services team provides computer security information on topics such as passwords, firewalls, USB devices, system updates, state computer security news, and details about what the Virginia Community College System considers “sensitive data” online. Learn more by clicking here.
To help protect students and employees from obtaining viruses on their personal computers LFCC offers a Nortan’s Anti-Virus software to all via secure download from within the college’s learning management system. Additional information on registry cleaners, anti-virus software, and security organizations can be found within the Center’s Clearinghouse area to the left.
Students and employees are encouraged to use the “See Something, Say Something” site to fill out the See Something, Say Something report form if they have cyber concerns at the college.
The LFCC Information Security Officer has produced a short Video to help remind employees and students that October is Cyber Security Awareness Month.
The second annual Virginia Cybersecurity Education Conference hosted by the Virginia Cyber Range, on August 14-15, 2019 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Several LFCC technology faculty and staff will be presenting. This conference is open to all Virginia high school, college, and university faculty, administrators, and partners. I&A Internship Program Webinar – Hosted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) invites you to participate in the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) Internship Program Webinar from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern on September 7. This webinar will include an overview of the application process, a panel featuring former and current I&A interns, and a question and answer session for the 2018 I&A Internship Program. The internship program isa paid experience focused on developing talented students into skilled, well-rounded DHS intelligence professionals.

Virginia partners with SANS Institute for free Cyber Aptitude challenge and potential scholarships. This is the first time that CyberStart has been deployed in the U.S. and will likely be the ONLY time SANS will make it available at no cost to participants. The Cyberstart is an online challenge that can be done from “anywhere” in the Commonwealth. The Volgenau School of Engineering at George Mason University introduces hands-on intensive Cybersecurity Precollege program for middle and high school students. The program prepares students to apply technical skills in cybersecurity careers. Students will learn career options in the field and hear from a variety of speakers about how to enter in this exciting profession. The National CyberWatch Center has opened registration for the National Cybersecurity Student Association. Membership allows students to display member logs within social networking and media sites and on their resumes. Please go to the association website at http://www.cyberstudents.org/ to learn more.
Free cybersecurity education for students, parents, organizations, and instructors. The NSA Day of Cyber is an online experience that allows students to walk through “a day in the life of” different job roles in Cyber at NSA.
