What does TRIO offer?
TRIO provides a sense of support and place of belonging for students! All participants are assigned to a counselor or advisor who will be their “go-to person” throughout their time at LFCC. All of the TRIO services and activities are absolutely free to students who become active program participants. These services include, but are not limited to:,
Counseling and Advising
TRIO counselors help students map out their time at LFCC. Counselors can advise for course selection, and can assist students with registering for their courses each semester. Counselors serve as a student’s “cheerleader” and are available to answer any LFCC-related questions, or simply to talk with students about any additional concerns they may have. If TRIO counselors are unable to meet specific needs, they will refer students to other available resources and individuals.
All TRIO participants can now schedule one-on-one tutoring with either our Writing Specialist, Justin Thurston or our Math Specialist, Patrick Federico.
If you would like to schedule an appointment with Justin, please click here.
If you would like to schedule an appointment with Patrick, please click here.
You will still have access to tutoring that is offered in most curriculum-based subjects on an open, walk-in basis for all LFCC students. If you need to view the schedule for walk-in tutoring please click here.
Students transferring to four-year colleges or universities are offered guidance in curriculum selection, admissions application and financial aid. Students also have the opportunity to visit 4-year colleges to experience their campus and speak with an admissions representative about any specific questions. .
In addition to academic support, TRIO plans and funds various social events and trips to local historical and educational sites. Some examples of recent past events are: LFCC’s Got Talent, LFCC Dinner Theater, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution Museums, National Aquarium, and more!
TRIO counselors work closely with LFCC disability services to provide the best opportunities for students seeking assistance or accommodations.
