FAQ – Passwords
- Why use passwords?
Passwords are an important aspect of computer security. They are the front line of protection for user accounts. A poorly chosen password may result in the compromise of Lord Fairfax Community College’s entire corporate network.
- When will my password expire or need to be updated?
All LFCC user passwords expire or are no longer useable on a 45 day cycle. You will be automatically notified if you have less than 16 days remaining before your password will expire. You will receive an automated alert message each time you log into the LFCC network.
- How do I know when my password will expire if I am not on campus?
If you access your e-mail through the Internet, you will see a notification message as a pop-up in your Outlook main menu. When you are on campus logging into the network, you will receive an automated message upon login to the network.
- Do I have to wait 90 days to change my password?
You can manually change your password at any time. If you are on campus, you would simultaneously hold down the keyboard keys CTRL-ALT-DEL. A box will appear with one of the options as Change Your Password, click on this option and follow the steps. If you are off-campus and have access to your LFCC e-mail account, there is an option button at the bottom left side of the screen click on the OPTIONS button. Within the OPTIONS function you can change your network password.
- I can’t remember my password or my access is locked.
