Cody Knickerbocker, a student at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) is the recipient of the Thomas and Karyn Dingledine Scholarship for Achievement in Academics and Service from James Madison University (JMU).
Knickerbocker, a resident of Winchester, received one of two scholarships awarded on the basis of demonstrated excellence in academic achievement at a Virginia community college. The scholarship is equivalent to full in-state tuition for two years at JMU. According to Stephen E. Wisecarver, Associate Professor of Psychology at LFCC, “Cody Knickerbocker has a work ethic and sense of civic responsibility that make him a contribution to any campus. JMU is fortunate to be acquiring such an exemplary student.”
Knickerbocker has attended LFCC since Summer 2011, has a 3.7 GPA, and has been a member of the LFCC Rugby Team. He volunteers for the American Cancer Society and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and is a recent winner of the “Big Brother of the Year” award. In his spare time, Knickerbocker boxes and runs. He plans to study bio-informatics with the goal of eventually doing cancer research, and wants to continue his education at the graduate level through the M.S. and Ph. D. programs.
