Samuel Giovanni Taliaferro, of Orlando, Fla., is a designer in the Memorabilia Department with Hard Rock Cafe International and a graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC). After graduating from LFCC in 1998, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University.
During his three years in his current position, Taliaferro has designed the memorabilia displays in Hard Rock properties across the globe, including Brazil, Dubai, Egypt, England and South Korea, as well as several across the U.S.
His community involvement includes working with the Hard Rock Ambassadors Program, which holds multiple events, including one for children suffering from leukemia. Other community service events he has participated in include walking a marathon to raise money to fight strokes; coaching youth soccer teams; and picking up trash in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
“I constantly help others as much as I can while keeping high results on all of our projects,” Taliaferro said.
He credits LFCC for helping him find direction in his life. He believes in hard work and dealing with adversity with a positive attitude.
“When I attended [LFCC], I had no idea what I wanted to do,” Taliaferro said. “I knew I wanted to get a degree in something, but besides that, everything was up in the air.”
“I also knew that I wanted to be involved,” he added. “Being involved with many clubs and organizations such as the Performing Arts Club, Forensics, Student Ambassadors and the Student Government Association helped me find what was important in my life.”
Taliaferro said he enjoyed his time at LFCC, and one way he stays connected with the College is by participating in the Fairfax Follies when his schedule permits.
“My experiences at LFCC were second to none,” he said. “It is where I grew as an individual and where I developed my passions. The faculty and staff were always there to help out with any problems or issues that came up. I am very thankful to everyone at LFCC, for they helped me find my way.”
Taliaferro has some advice for LFCC students based on his own experience: “Get involved as much as possible,” he said. “There are many great organizations and activities at LFCC. Even if you don’t think it may be up your alley, you never know what may come of it. Why not get on stage during the Fairfax Follies or join the History Club? You may learn, as I did, what your passions are and what you want to pursue after your time at LFCC.”
