Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) has announced the Spring 2012 Season schedule for its Men’s Rugby Team. The Spring schedule consists of 13 intercollegiate matches and one home Round Robin event. The Round Robin will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 1 p.m. at LFCC and includes Virginia Commonwealth University, Frostburg State University, and Washington and Lee University. The team is sponsored by Holtzman Corporation.
The team consists of over 30 players based at the Middletown Campus. This season the team was accepted into the Virginia Rugby Union Division III, sponsored under the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) and USA Rugby. In addition to the Round Robin teams, this Spring the team will compete against Hampden-Sydney college, Radford University, the University of Richmond, Lynchburg College, University of Virginia, Penn State, Virginia Military Institute, Christendom College, James Madison University, Virginia Tech, Longwood University, and Montgomery College.
“LFCC is emerging as a solid competitor in our division,” said Aaron Painter, team coach. “While we are still building this program, our efforts are paying off. It’s great for us to bring intercollegiate rugby to the Northern Shenandoah Valley.”
