MIDDLETOWN, Va. – Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) will host the Save a Life Tour and Wellness Fair on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held in the William H. McCoy Special Events Center located inside the Alson H. Smith Jr. Technology Center on the Middletown Campus, located at 173 Skirmisher Lane in Middletown. The event is free and open to the public.

The Save a Life Tour, which seeks to create greater awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving, is geared toward high school- and college-age individuals. The Save a Life Tour will feature shocking statistics, presentations, images and simulations to reinforce the message that driving under the influence is no accident — it is a choice. The Save a Life Tour is interactive and potentially life-changing.

Following are some of the activities that attendees will experience:

  • Presentations by individuals who have experienced  life-altering DUI incidents
  • Multi-screen, state-of-the-art, drinking-and-driving simulation that gives participants a “ticket” documenting the violations committed during their DUI driving experiences. Audience members can also experience the simulation by watching screens that display the driver’s view and a helicopter view.
  • An ongoing slide presentation of memorials to victims who have lost their lives in  DUI accidents
  • Informational video presentations, thought-provoking banners and a casket with signage stating “reserved for the next drinking and driving victim”

In addition, the following organizations will be available to answer questions and provide wellness information to attendees:

  • ABC Chiropractic
  • AIDS Response Effort
  • Bridging the Gaps
  • Concern Hotline
  • Crossroads Counseling Center
  • Curves
  • Department of Rehabilitation Services
  • Gold’s Gym
  • Response
  • Sportsplex
  • Spa 122
  • The Laurel Center
  • The National Counseling Group
