MIDDLETOWN, Va. – Lord Fairfax Community College’s (LFCC) Dental Hygiene Program is currently accepting new patients to receive a variety of services based on the patients’ needs and the educational requirements of the program. The services provided in the clinic are free.
“In order to graduate, the dental hygiene students must complete the necessary clinical requirements. This is a win-win situation for all involved — the individuals who are selected receive quality treatment and care, while the students are able to prepare for the workplace and finish the requirements of the program,” said Claudia Mazurkiewicz, associate professor of dental hygiene and coordinator of the Dental Hygiene Program at LFCC.
All services are offered in a learning environment supervised by licensed instructors. The following services are offered at the clinic, based on the patients’ needs:
- Athletic mouth guards
- Dental x-rays (copies may be forwarded to a personal dentist upon request)
- Nutritional counseling
- Oral prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
- Plaque control appointments (including dietary counseling)
- Pit and fissure sealants
- Topical fluoride application
Not every person is selected to be a patient. Selection is dependent upon such factors as the patient’s ability to return to the clinic for multiple visits, which enables the students to complete the patient’s treatment and receive a final grade. The number of appointments varies for each patient and is based on his or her medical and dental health.
Days and hours available for appointments vary. Individuals interested in participating in the program may contact the clinic at 540-868-7062 or 800-906-5322, ext. 7062.
