LFCC’s PTK Chapters Receive Regional Awards and Hold Spring 2007 Induction Ceremonies

MIDDLETOWN and WARRENTON, Va. – Lord Fairfax Community College's (LFCC) chapters of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society of two-year colleges, recently received multiple awards at the 28th annual convention of PTK's Virginia Region.

The Alpha Beta Omega Chapter from the Middletown Campus and the Alpha Psi Iota Chapter from the Fauquier Campus received the following awards at the convention:

Alpha Beta Omega Chapter – Middletown Campus

  • Most Outstanding Chapter – awarded to one chapter in the region
  • Five Star Award – highest award – based on a chapter's year-long activities to promote PTK's hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service
  • Leadership Hallmark/1stPlace – based on the implementation of activities in which the chapter assumes leadership roles on campus, in the community and within PTK
  • Scholarship Hallmark/3rdPlace – based on the implementation of projects that address the current honors study topic, “Gold, Gods and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power”
  • Service Hallmark/4thPlace – based on the implementation of the current PTK International Service Program, “Operation Green: Improving our Communities”

Alpha Psi Iota Chapter – Fauquier Campus

  • Five Star Award – highest award – based on a chapter's year-long activities to promote PTK's hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service
  • Scholarship Hallmark/5thPlace – based on the implementation of projects that address the current honors study topic,“Gold, Gods and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power”
  • Service Hallmark/6th Place – based on the implementation of the current PTK International Service Program, “Operation Green: Improving our Communities”
  • Best Fund-raising Project/3rd Place – based on the development of a fund-raising project to support Habitat for Humanity

Individual honors were also distributed as follows:

Alpha Beta Omega Chapter – Middletown Campus

  • Hall of Honor – Matt Biggs, a Front Royal resident, and Rachel Herbaugh, a Berryville resident – based on service to the chapter
  • Outstanding Chapter Officer – Rebekah Jaswa, a Stephens City resident – based on service to the chapter
  • Outstanding Chapter Member – Rachel Herbaugh, a Berryville resident – based on service to the chapter
  • PTK Horizon Award for Outstanding Advisor – Brent Kendrick, professor of English at LFCC and Alpha Beta Omega co-advisor &nbd based on long-time service to PTK

Alpha Psi Iota Chapter – Fauquier Campus

  • PTK Hall of Honor – Marian King, a Warrenton resident, and Debbie Vogel, a Warrenton resident – based on service to the chapter
