MIDDLETOWN and WARRENTON, Va. – The Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Educational Foundation Inc. recently established the LFCC Students in Sports Scholarship to benefit students on the College’s men’s and women’s soccer teams, the Cannons. The scholarship was established with proceeds received from the sale of baseballs autographed by baseball great Cal Ripken Jr. Ripken was the featured speaker at an LFCC event in 2005 and donated the baseballs to the College at that time.

Thirteen of the 21 baseballs have been sold at $100 each, for a total of $1,300 raised for the scholarship. Individuals interested in purchasing one of the remaining balls may visit the LFCC Educational Foundation’s Web page at https://lfcc.edu/Foundation/foundation_sales.htm.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to one full- or part-time LFCC student who is a member of the College’s men’s soccer team and one full- or part-time LFCC student who is a member of the College’s women’s soccer team. Scholarship recipients must exemplify the ideals that Ripken demonstrated, including responsibility, persistence, work ethic and team work.

The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, books and/or fees and will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. Satisfactory academic progress (minimum grade point average of 3.5) must be maintained in order for the recipients to receive the award for the spring semester.

In addition to the aforementioned scholarship, the LFCC Educational Foundation has many other scholarship funds, providing funding to full- and part-time students in the fall and spring semesters. Current or prospective LFCC students interested in applying for one of the many LFCC scholarships can obtain additional information on LFCC’s Web site at https://lfcc.edu/scholarships.

Individuals interested in donating to this or other scholarship funds may make checks payable to “LFCC Educational Foundation,” write the name of the fund on the memo line and mail the checks to the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc., 173 Skirmisher Lane, Middletown, VA 22645-1745.
